Pros

Many of the employees are retired military which gives them a host of experiences and a very good work ethic. For the most part, the newer class of employee (X&Y gens) are exceptional. Coworkers are very willing to help you with your issues. On the average the employees are positive and personable. Good mentorship program. Good indoctrination but is constantly being shortened due to budget constraints. Good availability of training both online and classroom.

Cons

Huge Bureaucracy. Sometimes it is easy to get lost. Also with declining DoD budgets...jobs are few and resources are becoming scarce. Lacks a truly competitive atmosphere can be difficult for a competitive personality.

Pros

You have a chance to be at the center of defense policymaking. The salary and benefits are very competitive. The Thrift Savings Plan is a great benefit. PTO and sick leave are much more generous than in the private sector. The federal government is one of the few workplaces that still has a defined-benefit pension plan. The pension isn't huge, but it is enough to keep me out of poverty in retirement.

Cons

The promotion and employee evaluation system does not make sense. Toxic leadership, constant reorganization. I personally do not agree with the current leadership in D.C. and their policies, and that creates ethical quandaries for anyone working there.
