Pros
There are a lot of smart and energetic people that work here. Finally with a new senior leader, the leadership is being modernized; changing the culture of the agency by enforcing standards and emplacing standards where none existed. He expects a great deal from his workforce and gives just as much back. He is transparent and expects his leadership to be. The senior leader is engaging and seeks his own answers by interacting with the employees. I have been here a while and he is a breath of fresh air for a place that was in dire need of it. I expect the climate and culture to get better over time. Promotions now occur within. Now there is a professional development "path".
Cons
There are still too many old school thinkers in leadership positions; they say they are onboard with the new way ahead but do not model or practice it. Some directorates do not have much diversity if any in their leadership positions. With changes to the promotion system, it is the equivalent of hitting the reset button. Meaning, it is going to take a while before the promotion system catches up to all the deserving people.
