Pros
Excellent pay for Officers, great experience, fantastic resume builder, opportunities for graduate level education, GI Bill Benefits, travel opportunities, unparalleled leadership experience. Excellent (usually) family support systems in place.
Cons
Long hours, high stress, long time away from home. Difficult on family/relationships. Rigid promotion system. Lack of mobility within organization outside of proscribed career pathways. Health care is free - but is hit or miss depending on duty station and quality of sailors assigned to that medical center.
