Spend less time off the ship, than normal people spend in their bed. - Fire Control Man, Second Class US Navy Employee Review

Pros

See the word, adventure abound. Steady paycheck. Uniform with a superhero cape. Defend freedom and democracy around the world. Take on real challenges civilians will never face, especially at 20 years old.

Cons

Nobody cares about the enlisted man's needs. The needs of the Navy always come first. You will spend most of your time at sea, and when in home port, most of your time on the ship. Every 6th day you will have to stay aboard the ship no matter what is going on in your life (literally my apartment had burned down the night before, and my wife was on her own to handle it, because I had duty). Foreign deployment is the only rewarding part of being a sailor.
