Pros

The command has many flexible shifts, 8-hr, 9-hr, 10-hr, 8-flex, and 12-hr shifts from which to choose. They also have a variety of start times anywhere from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the morning. This makes it workable for commuters who want to avoid some if not all of the typical morning crush. NMPDC has a robust telework program. This is very helpful with life and weather events. Many folk or regular teleworkers one or two days a week and some more days. For the many flexibilities we won the 2012 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility in the When Work Works competition.

Cons

Parking is non-existent. There is a waiting list to ask for permission to drive your car to work. We have a high churn rate in staff and leadership as key military members receive orders. Navy medicine is undergoing much reorganization which brings uncertainty. NMPDC is Federally funded and that brings concerns for sequestration, furlough, and shutdown. We are mostly one-deep in key positions. The IT environment is changing and that can be frustrating.
