Pros
I believe that I am well-paid, especially when overtime is taken into consideration. Also, we have a wide choice of health-insurance programs, a solvent retirement program, and the opportunity to join a 401(k)-style program to add to our retirement savings. Finally, union representation is available in case of employee-management impasses.
Cons
Where to start??? OK.......FOCUS.....OK, I believe that we are frustrared not so much bad management so much as NANO-management--perhaps this is another phrase for BUREAUCRACY. We are not only told WHAT to do, which is the USPS's right, but HOW to do our quotidian tasks--also within their right, but not necessarily within their best interest. Our years of experience should count for something, but not in the world of the USPS's rear-echelon, sometimes known as THE COVEN by some cruel types. Many of our postmasters and foremen are ex-carriers and clerks, and some of them are empathetic to our problems, but they too are wary of doing anything that would detour or derail their career paths. Thus, they tolerate a work atmosphere that treats employees as petulant Soccer Kids--pre-RITALIN(tm). Minor punishments for chickens**t infractions and awards for the most minor achievements--affirmative chickens**t, if you will.
