Pros
The best reasons to work for Gannett include the 401k plan, partial payment of health insurance. The people are terrific they are ready able and willing to help. Most of the employees are friendly, intelligent. The Gannett TV station for which I worked is very close to my home. Because of the nature of my job the hours were flexible. The Gannett TV station for which I worked was relatively agreeable to approve time off for vacations, personal days, childcare and emergencies. This Gannett TV station did their best to grant as many people as possible off during the holidays.
Cons
Management personnel are puppets. They are not willing to fight for what is needed to improve the station. During these hard economic times, the station is downsizing, asking those who are already over worked to take on the responsibilities of the terminated employees, do their job and take a pay cut. The managers are just yes men/women trying to keep their jobs. Most people are already doing as much as humanly possible. The stress level is extremely high. If you walk into the newsroom you see it and feel it. There is little honest, straight-forwad communication between management and employees.
