Pros

at USA Today, good access to sources. The paper's circulation and "reputation" makes it a must read even among people who scoff at its quality compared to the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. From middle management down to senior and mid-level reporters, there is a strong sense of competence. But the emphasis on shifting to an on-line platform is slow, tedious and ineffective. The blending of the traditional newsroom and on-line staff did NOTHING to solve that. I could work all week without saying a word to my on-line office mates. Most young on-line staffers have technical expertise with the Internet, but little to no actual reporting background. And for the most part, they collect information from outside sources and "process" it rather than make actual calls to confirm accuracy or come up with anything original.

Cons

inept senior management wants to walk the walk, but can't talk the talk. several have little to no news judgement and are afraid to speak up to their superiors - either because they don't know better or are afraid to contradict anyone. This is particularly true in the Money section.

Pros

Career growth through working with a team that is about success - clients and your own!

Cons

No water-cooler chats because of being remote, but this isn't really a con.

Pros

A company that I believe genuinely cares about its employees as much as their clients. Great work/life balance, decent pay, great culture, welcoming and supportive atmosphere.

Cons

Trying to "fix" too many things at one time can lead to inconsistency and feelings of being overwhelmed at all levels. There is a lot of great intent and plans to continue to grow the company and make things better overall, however, sometimes it felt a lot like "pulling at straws" approach where upper leadership would try something impulsively, and not stick to it long enough to see if it could truly make an impact, and many times certain approaches contradicted a previous one for a different area of opportunity. However, it's important to note, that through many moving parts, there was always support offered, and a "safe space" to provide feedback at even entry level roles.
