Pros

- Kind, warm and generous colleagues - Gorgeous campus, nice dining halls, gyms, covered parking etc. - Competitive benefits package - Up to 8% 401k matching w/an addtl 4-8% kicker - The executive culture of 'managing-up' means individual contributors and middle managers aren't supervised - Family friendly, heaps of schedule flexibility - Extraordinary commitment to veterans, LGB and employees w/disabilities - Zero tolerance for workplace harassment, hazing etc. - Extremely stable employer, few layoffs or workforce reductions - USAA is highly regarded in San Antonio and its employees are deeply respected

Cons

- San Antonio is an extremely difficult place for highly educated, credentialed or ambitious spouses to have independent careers (USAA pays the highest salaries in SAT so unless your spouse works there too expect a deep paycut relative to where you moved from) - Bonus awards are steadily declining - The military market it serves is shrinking - The IT Dept isn’t held accountable for its action/inaction and disempowers lines of business (that’s why IT is consistently a top-rated place to work, even though it actively interferes with business improvement processes) - Many executives have alarmingly weak academic and professional backgrounds. It is increasingly led by castoffs from larger financial institutions who couldn’t hack it in NY, Chicago, SF, LA etc. and got trapped in SAT

Life work balance, great benefit package and nice colleagues. The goal of the company is providing the best service to its members. So, they treat employees the best to encourage them to do the same for members.

Cons

Slow IT support, limited interactions with industry. Banking business is not as mature as insurance.
