Pros

Great co-workers committed to excellence

Cons

USAA isn’t all hacks and yes men and women. USAA has a great diversity in workforce, but this is due to its geographic location, San Antonio. And there is a glass ceiling to the executive ranks for women and minorities. Most of my ex-analyst colleagues who fill the executive ranks are white males. My absolute irritation is with HR Analysis giving up its role in turning raw data into useful information and just fulfilling a spreadsheet completion role. And the hackneyed responses to my question, “what is meant by poor communication”, in my appeal phone call was the very embodiment of poor communication. When offered a chance to pay my money to get additional counseling to USAA on these issues, I took a pass, waited out my time to UTSA class completion and started a comparable job back home with more security and a better focus on analysis and meaning. Because USAA execs and their internal HR customer liaisons had money less than responsive reporting was never shut them down.

Life work balance, great benefit package and nice colleagues. The goal of the company is providing the best service to its members. So, they treat employees the best to encourage them to do the same for members.

Slow IT support, limited interactions with industry. Banking business is not as mature as insurance.
