Pros
Remote work accommodation during COVID
Cons
The forced RTO may be in violation of state and Federal laws regarding work from home accommodations. Those of us who have a documented disability are protected under the EOC, provided we could do our job remotely (we did), and performed our job functions satisfactorily (individual metrics improved in many cases). The company can not force you to return to the office if you meet the above criteria, they must accommodate you. This includes physical and mental health related disabilities. Just in this forum alone, there are many individuals who left due to the toxic environment and extreme mental health issues caused by the stress of this job. The EOC is going to start cracking down on companies who allowed WFH during COVID, and then abruptly revoked the accommodation. It is not acceptable for the company to say that it is a management decision that everyone return to the office and deny remote opportunities across the board. Each request for remote work must be reviewed individually on its own merit, which the company did not do. They got around a lot of the red tape by claiming that they were making the positions “hybrid “ which meant 80% in the office - all so management could continue their extreme micromanaging of employees.
