Pros

The bonus is nice, but remember, it's a forced savings. You WILL NOT be paid industry salary.

Cons

If you are a San Antonio local and you don't have a 4 year degree, and you start out in the call center, then USAA is for you. Congrats, you will have a long and wonderful career. If you have corporate experience elsewhere, an expert in your are of concentration, and you are lured in by USAA's bonus and considering a position here, move on! USAA as a culture and overall organization, likes to promote from call center to any position in USAA. So the entire culture feels like a call center and that mentality infiltrates every area, project management, (there is no project management), constant shifting of managers, coworkers who THINK they understand their area of expertise, but the only experience they have is within the walls of USAA. So their experience is diluted, and honestly, it's like working with people who have their GEDs and just somehow landed a management position. There are some individuals with great talent, but rest assured, they leave for companies where their experience is respected and valued. USAA is very cult-like. The low pay is due to the call center promotion mentality. If they can get someone "trained" then they don't have to pay industry salaries. If you want to lose your edge, go ahead and take that position at USAA. I'm on my way out before I am not longer competitive and only competitive within the walls of USAA. Millennial applicant's, don't say you were not warned!!! You may have to work alongside a granny call-center person who thinks they are a project manager and they've been there for 50 years. No iron-sharpens-iron there. Truly the most blasé environment.
