Good benefits with dissapointing pay & subpar culture - Business Operations Analyst UT Southwestern Medical Center Employee Review

Pros

-Healthcare is free for employees -Fairly generous time off: vacation/sick time accrual is separate (8 hours a month of each plus floating holiday) -Good name recognition that comes with employment there

Cons

-EXTREMELY frustrating culture. A huge majority of employees have been there for over a decade, so the age demographic is older, and as a result, very resistant to change - In addition, the 25 years+ employees that fill administrative roles feel VERY entitled to make your experience as negative as they so please and completely ignore workplace manners. My coworkers and I experienced: being asked if we were pregnant when wearing a loose shirt, questioned for not wearing stockings, frequent office visits for the purpose of "checking to see if you're all working", etc. -Exempt and non-exempt all employees have to clock-in and out -Absolutely 0 consideration for remote or work-from-home options (even though the health systems across the street both do) -Getting a raise/promotion is an act of Congress. They say they have to post every job publicly, interview other candidates, leave the job posted for a specified amount of time, etc. before you can be considered because it's a state institution -Salary is significantly below the market. My dept.'s initial desired salary was $20K lower than the avg. for my role in Dallas. They ultimately offered me more than initially stated but still $5-$10K below the market and the work I performed was FAR more than they advertised -Soo many people are "grandfathered" into this organization. UTSW refuses to fire dead-weight employees, and as a result, the hard-working, motivated employees quickly lose steam & ultimately decide to leave (all of the new hires in my group left at the 1 year mark largely due to this, and compensation reasons)
