In my thirty years as a professional, I have never worked in such a toxic work environment. The red flags were apparent just two months after I started, but I decided to keep going and give this place a chance. However, after one year, I decided I couldn't take it any longer as it was seriously affecting my physical and mental well-being. Leadership as a whole was severely lacking - zero people skills, micromanaging, etc. It's obvious UTHealth doesn't require their managers to have any training or education prior to placing them in these positions (just scroll through the reviews - most people leave due to bad managers). There are no checks and balances within the department, so it's easy to feel completely helpless when your direct manager is the cause of the issues. There is no standardized training or cross training, something I found very odd for a company of this size. Calling or reporting complaints to HR does absolutely nothing. Team members are underappreciated and not fully utilized to their full potential - it was a sad sight to see. Morale was so incredibly low for all employees within the department.
Oh, parking is EXTREMELY expensive ($200 a month)! If I'd known this before I was hired, I would have tried to negotiate a higher salary.
