Pros
- Plenty of new products to learn about - Awesome training opportunities on Dermalogica (for estheticians) and in-house training for the cosmetologists - Opportunity to market your services in-store, and potentially gain clients - Many clients are sweethearts once you get them in your cube (as an esthetician) - You will get a base pay if you don't have any clients, which means that you'll at least take some pay home if you have no clients for the week.
Cons
- Depending on the store you work in, the esthetician will either work in a separate room or in a "cube" like structure. The store was being built when I accepted the job, so no one could tell me what the work environment would be (I asked many times!). Unfortunately, the cube is the ABSOLUTE WORST STRUCTURE to do any type of work in as an esthetician. The space is tight and uncomfortable, and God bless you if you have a larger client (length and/or girth). It's also loud and provides no privacy. - Their should be mandatory training provided on the other prestige beauty products for the esthetician and quite frankly the entire store. Their product training policy is downright STUPID! It's basically an "each one teach one" type policy, where only a few are trained on certain products, and then if that person wants "gratis", the person has to speak to other employees about the product. - The gratis policy is STUPID, lol! You only get it if you are lucky enough to get picked to attend training on a certain product and then share the information you learned with at least 3 employees. Oh, and then if you are lucky enough to have store management that you can track down and who is prompt with rewarding you for your hard work. - Working with the public can be challenging - No full-time work for the salon team when you first start - It will be politely suggested that you leave early if you have no one on the books in the salon, which just puts so much pressure on the licensed professional - Until you can generate a full-book, your pay will be soooo sad. You will either have to have a two-person income household or another job to pay the bills. Base pay is the lowest out of the store (for real, as a licensed professional, your base pay is less than the cashier!) - Too many more to list here...
