Pros
I genuinely wanted this to work. UniUni is doing interesting things in a space that matters, and there are some really talented people across the org who are building something worth watching. That said, my experience on the revenue side didn't match what was sold to me coming in. Not in a dramatic way more in a slow, quiet way that's harder to put your finger on until you're already too far in.
Cons
Expectations shifted without warning. A strong performance period was followed immediately by criticism of the exact same areas with no progressive feedback, no coaching, and no honest conversation in between. When I asked direct questions, I got rehearsed answers. When decisions were made about my role, I was informed, not consulted. There's a particular kind of management style that mistakes control for leadership. If you're a senior hire coming into BD or partnerships, do your due diligence on who you'll be reporting to and how success is actually measured because the answer you get in the interview may not match the reality on the ground. Feedback wasn't consistent. A really solid stretch would be followed by concerns that felt like they came out of nowhere — about the same things that had never been flagged before. Conversations that should have been straightforward felt rehearsed. Decisions about your role get made, and then you're told about them. I don't think anyone sets out to create that kind of environment. But it's the kind of thing that adds up, and by the time you realize it, you've already spent a lot of energy trying to make something work that was never quite set up for you to succeed. If you're looking at a senior role on the BD or partnerships side, just go in with eyes open. Ask specific questions about how success is defined and who you'll be working with day to day. The company has real upside — just make sure the role is what they say it is.
