Pros

The pay and benefits are pretty decent. Bonuses are okay if your manager likes you. If they really like you then you get retention stock (which is probably the only thing keeping people around).

Cons

I really want to like Union Pacific, I really do but they make it so hard. For example, in 2020 they force employees to take one week of unpaid leave per month for 4 months (equal to a 25% pay cut each month) which sent the stock prices up. UP isn't close to shutting it's doors so why do the employees have to sacrifice pay? I am now struggling to pay bills with reduced pay while the shareholders get dividends. Will the employees get rewarded for their sacrifice? I am guessing not. Upper management still can't figure out why moral is low.

Pros

Good pay and benefits. Work is challenging.

Cons

Weak lower and middle management - they only care about their own careers. Poor morale. UP went down hill after Jim Young passed away.
