Pros

I was recruited by United Rentals at my university's career fair to work in their corporate office in Charlotte, NC. My position was a sales associate in an OSR (outside sales representative) training program. I made roughly 60-80 phone calls to dormant accounts all over the US, east coast to west coast, as well as Canada. Great experience making cold calls, working with sales force software, and building a pipeline to manage my customers. I rented equipment, sold training, and passed leads for used equipment sales.

Cons

I was told that the program was 6 months and then I will be able to interview and be promoted as an OSR. I know many people in the program that were there for a year, the average time in the program was 8-11 months.

Pros

Excellent benefits and a plethora of tools ans support. Company truck for sales reps at $75 per pay period. It’s a very well known company so you get a lot of business from national accounts. If you can get your foot in the door, it’s an experience that’s worth it. No regrets.

Cons

Due to their size and like so many publicly traded companies, there is a huge disconnect on the expectations. My manager did his best but you could tell his bosses were asking for unachievable results. My sales manager was clueless at her role and no sales experience to lead a team. Things she would ask from us were counter productive. Not anything I couldn’t deal with.
