Pros
US Cold Storage has a lot of great folks working there. Everyone I worked with was really great and they were always willing to help out. There are lots of folks with decades at the company, which is always a good sign. The company is making a lot of large scale capital investments, which is also an indication of management's confidence. They have outstanding medical coverage for a very affordable cost. If you were to buy the "premium" plan, there is no out-of-pocket for many services. The retirement plan is pretty good -- 3% non-elective 401K contribution, a 50% match of the first 4% you contribute to the 401K, and pension plan contribution on top of that. They worked hard to fill most positions from within the company, so there are a lot of opportunities to move around an gain experience in different roles. The expectations for hours worked, outside of travel, were not excessive.
Cons
Medical benefits don't start until after 90 days service. 401K doesn't start until after a year's service. You can't even contribute your own money to a 401K for a year -- this is somewhat out of step with most companies this size. The other major con, and this is the main reason I left, is the travel. My position required quite a bit of travel (50-70%), and most corporate positions were similar. Pay is probably slightly below average -- the VP for HR told me that verbatim at the interview.
