I will admit I did feel really good about helping the community. However this was simply not enough to override the cons.
Cons
This was the most toxic environment I’ve worked in. The board of directors hired a CEO that was screaming at employees right off the bat. The BOD mandated her to therapy / mental health classes however that did not improve her situation. This CEO was extremely mean, condescending, and a huge bully. When I worked at this Chapter there were only 7 employees in the entire organization. The environment had been sown with toxicity for many years by the time I got there. The CEO had a favored employee, and from my perspective felt as though she could be insubordinate because of her tenure. She would make just downright mean comments to her younger staff, to the point that she terrorized 3 people into rage quitting. I think this was the most traumatic situation and extremely unprofessional. As there should be absolutely no yelling or condescending tones made to anyone ; especially in the workplace ; contrary to popular belief there - you can actually inform someone on how to do something without talking to them in the most disrespectful and disgusting way possible. Do not work here. The pay is extremely low and disrespectful on top of the fact that I dealt with major workplace abuse. As well as the work life balance being completely unreasonable. You would be expected to stay late nights AND work on Saturdays. Mind you, the CEO would allow herself to work from home whenever she wanted, but everyone else had to have boots on the ground six days a week. The head of the board of directors is extremely strange. I’m not entirely sure what his deal was but he would completely disregard any complaints about this toxic environment. I suppose since everyone who had a problem quit ; they figured they won’t have to deal with it now. I was very excited about helping the community, but the toxic and horrible environment has absolutely ruined my attitude towards non-profit and really hurt my self esteem. Please do not work here. The leadership team does not care about you ; ie the Treasurer was advocating to completely cut our Health Insurance. The office politics and playing favorites is extremely bizarre. The jealousy and willingness to put other employees down is very hurtful and damaging.
