Business Units: Each business unit in the college is in competition with the other, which is detrimental to less successful areas. Currently there are three units in the college: online learning (most successful), in person (not doing well), and associate/professional certificates (newest). Each unit has their own budget everything including marketing, computer systems and general support, their own staff/faculty, their own admissions requirements and expectations. Communication between business units is actively discouraged, and sometimes not even allowed is you are lower on the totem pole. The complexity of this matrix structure makes no sense for a college of this size. This attitude of internal competition will lead to the eventual closure of the campus if that happens. The differences between the units is so extreme that you genuinely feel that you are siloed/isolated and working at different school. Internal Promotion/Turn over Very high turn over, especially in Distance Education recruitment, which is essentially working in a call center. Movement across business units is very, very difficult to do. And if you are in a struggling business unit promotions will not happen. Planning for change All changes that occur within the college, occur quickly without enough thought and planning put in place. The creation of an entire business unit was made without enough planning to see if it was viable for both the students and financial longevity. The president once said that they were planning on selling the campus, which has not happened but has created so much negative press and loss of faith within the college that we lost a significant amount of students. There is not enough planning across the college. Work life balance After covid they cut PTO time, and when we went back into the office, we were not allowed to WFH at all anymore. This might change in the future, but doubtful.
