Pros

I'm a 20 something software developer contracting on behalf of UM. I gotta say, the UM bunch is one of the chillest yet hardest working groups I have ever been a part of. The typical UM'er is extremely intelligent, creative, edgy, and professional. I've seen UM contractors accomplish huge technological feats in very short amounts of time. I've kicked back and enjoyed myself while drinking beer that UM has paid for. Even though the UM community is spread out all over the country, we are all communicating on slack, sharing the awesome stuff we do. I think what makes UM especially great is that everyone I've talked to not only cares about software creation but holds it dear to their hearts. This attitude is what allows UM to continually push the boundaries of the software creation process. I truly believe that the passion within this company is what keeps UM on the bleeding edge of UX, CX, UI design, SAFe agile methodologies, devOps, and software development. I am a proud member of this community and I feel like a straight up bad a** even saying so. I'm being deliberately candid because I really want you to know how I feel.

Cons

This isn't necessarily specific to just UM but managing the different timezones between all the UM'ers around the country can get a bit wonky.

Pros

Incredible culture, amazing talent, and inspiring work environment.

Cons

Not worth sharing now that they are closing. They did the best they could and I'm grateful for my time with the company.

Pros

I smiled when I saw that UM had almost all 5 star reviews on Glassdoor. Seems to good to be true doesn't it? Every company has it's flaws, but to be honest, I have yet to discover what those are here (they didn't pay me to say this, I swear). Someone below said that this company feels like "home", and I couldn't have said it better myself. I've worked for some top notch start up tech companies in Silicon Valley that were seemingly wonderful on the outside, but once in the door, the flaws and cracks in their culture became painfully apparent. Admittedly, it's difficult to keep a great culture as a company scales, but Universal Mind has somehow dialed it in effortlessly. Despite my hesitations to join a distributed culture (I've always worked onsite) I've come to discover that it's really the best culture I've ever been a part of. Whether it's the hilarious conversations on Slack, interesting google hangout meetings, company off-sites where everyone can come together and get to know each other, the flexible schedule, or just generally working with some of the smartest, most creative folks in the industry, I can say with absolute honesty that this company is by far my favorite place to work thus far in my career. This is a place where your ideas and opinions are heard, upper management instills trust and autonomy in their staff, and no one person is any better than anyone else, regardless of title or position. I hope the crew at UM likes me as much as I like them, because they're stuck with me for the foreseeable long term future.

Cons

I have nothing to add here.
