Pros
The majority of people who work at UFCU are great and create a wonderful working environment. As others have mentioned, the culture is relatively laid back, though there is more emphasis on selling products to members than perhaps there used to be. Supervisors and Managers are great and usually care about their employees. Co-workers have a true sense of team work, which also contributes to the good working environment. Retirement benefits (company sponsored 401k) are very good and they have a great FMLA policy to allow both women and men to take off extended time for family medical leave (including births of children).
Cons
Executives are often distant and several senior managers don't really seem to take an interest in the development of their employees and are often immersed in meetings making them unavailable to staff. As others have mentioned, there is little to no opportunity for advancement within the company, which results in employees often making lateral moves within the organization in order to broaden their experience. Development of employees into leadership (or higher paying) positions is likewise stifled. HR will tell all applicants that they pride themselves with 'promoting from the inside,' but the reality is there hasn't been a significant internal promotion in quite sometime. Employee compensation is woefully inadequate for the amount of work that is required and market research shows that for an organization of their size, UFCU underpays their employees considerably. Also, some executive initiatives/ decisions are extremely poorly executed, resulting in both staff and member frustration. Executives have also been known to suddenly restructure the organization, giving little notice to the employees affected.
