Sacrificing Quality for Control - Online Professor Upper Iowa University Employee Review

Pros

I have taught online courses for UIU for the past six years, and enjoyed the support of administrators who had to field complaints that my classes were too rigorous. Defending college level standards is important to me, since dumbing down curriculum harms everyone, and is not fair to students who are paying a premium price for an excellent education. Many of the students I have taught at UIU have expressed appreciation for my teaching methods, and many have gone on to promotions and raises all because they learned to write better from my classes.

Cons

Recently, people who are not Subject Matter Experts in my field have presumed to tell me how to teach my online class, including going so far as to tell me how I should be teaching grammar in my English classes, instead of trying to understand why I teach it the way I do. Several other online faculty have complained that they feel the micro-managing of the classes is detrimental to their abilities to teach their courses to the best of their abilities, but all our complaints seem to fall on deaf administrative ears.
