Pros

I enjoyed being a graduate teaching instructor for the interpersonal communication class at USU so much. The students are kind and personable, and the course instructor, Dr. Amanda Lilly, leads the program extremely well. She is organized, experienced, kind, and very helpful.

Cons

The pay, sadly it doesn't pay to be a T.A. or GTI.

Pros

Academia is a more relaxed atmosphere than a for profit business. Most of the people I work with are very kind. And the summers are amazingly quiet.

Cons

The pay is very low. My position was just created and the base pay is $50k. However, the raises here only come if you leave your position and move to a different division within the university. It is commonly said that if you want a raise or a promotion you have to go somewhere else.
