Pros

You get to see and take care of all different type of dogs and cats and learn about each pet. Very sweet animals and rewarding.

Cons

The current manager is not a very good manager. To start out, my interview was very strange. The manger gave me a tour of the facility and on that same day, she asked me for a copy of my drivers license and social security card like as if i got the job already (finding out i got the job right on the spot). I don't think she did a background check on me. Fast forward to now, i've recently found out that she has hired a criminal before, she hires literally ANYONE and people with no experience what so ever, and the person she hired for air conditioning maintenance is her fiance, whom is not under the contract for VCA. I've been accused of many wrongful incidents that were not my fault and she did not bother to hear my side of the story. I've seen other employees make the same mistakes I've made, and they are not getting written up at all. And when you do something wrong, she does not pull you to the side, she turns to humiliation instead. There is a lot of favoritism and come to find out she's only been a receptionist, and she has zero management experience. She is very unprofessional and spiteful. The turnover rate is very high because of this particular individual. There is currently a open position as a Kennel Supervisor, however nobody is willing to take the position because they pay is insulting and if promoted, there is no pay raise whatsoever. Working here is a prime example as to why good employees leave because of bad management.

Pros

This company offers many opportunities for doctors and techs to grow in their careers. They provide tons of support and they've been making HUGE changes to veterinary medicine on a whole. I have never known another company to offer so many benefits and perks for staff (especially techs), and they're even making lots of effort to invest in the veterinary receptionists-the front line associates of the hospital. They're also making great strides to acknowledge some of the feedback we've had for many years. They're savvy and smart, making business decisions that build on a company that will be around a long time (and has.)

Cons

There have been times where transparency and communication are lacking, and sometimes to the point where hospital-level employees feel left out or unheard. Some bigger topics like onboarding and navigating what support comes from where could be more clear. It feels like they've been fusing on new concepts/policies/features to the company, making it feel like a clunky machine rather than building something new and streamlined. Maybe it's in the works, but how do we know down here?
