Pros
VCA general practitioner hospitals are a great place to learn the basic principles to be a competent veterinary assistant/technician. The benefits are also good and they have generous employee pet care discounts.
Cons
There is very little opportunity for growth and the salary is poor. There is a high turn over rate in these hospitals because the staff soon realizes that they are not valued as an employee but just another worker that can be easily replaced, and possibly for less money. It's almost impossible to evoke change within VCA hospitals because the managers and chief of staff always have to answer to the next highest person on the ladder.
