Pros

I met some great people and still keep in touch with them. None still work there because people do not stay longer than a year. Was a stepping stone to a job I actually wanted

Cons

The irony of this company is they preach all kinds of lofty liberal values, while running a BIM sweat shop in Manilla. One of the owners is from this country so he is essentially exploiting his own people for profit. -there is no standard location for contracts because they do not want the modelers to see how little they are being paid relative to contracts. This causes multiple versions of contracts to float around and causes a TON of issues. Billing is always a disaster. its unreal how unrefined this process is after 10 years. A substantial amount of fee erosion is incurred just trying to figure out billing. ASANA -Asana is the primary communication tool. Use of this is terrible. Sure, there is technically a template, but it is not really followed. 5 projects will use it 5 different ways. Also people quit all the time so when these jobs are inherited, you have to spend a substantial amount of time figuring out what is going on. -You will spend hours (after your regular shift) writing explicit instructions in Asana and will MAYBE get half of it back correctly. We were told several times by leadership to expect about 60% accuracy from Manilla MANILLA -you will get modelers stolen from your project and then blamed for not delivering on time. -There does not appear to be much QC in the hiring process in Manilla. I have encountered modelers that did not understand industry basics such as RCP & what "on center" means. I have had to explain to modelers that they need to be sure they are not creating a new clash when resolving a clash. its absolutely exasperating. -often Manilla people do not have sufficient English skills to communicate. They just say "yes" to everything. -frequently you will be up till they late hours of the night trying to straighten out Manilla to avoid a mess in the morning. It is really awful for quality of life. It makes planning a social life impossible. -Manilla gets substandard machines. Often their computers lock up due to the nature of the work. I have had a simple model export take them hours. IT & HARDWARE -VT cheeps out on EVERYTHING. frequently you will have to work with student or free trials for licenses. -You cannot install your own software. instead you have to put in a ticket. Its obnoxious. So if you need a plugin ASAP, you may have to wait hours or even days. -You will not get a suitable computer for BIM work. IT will impede your ability to work. CULTURE -A colleague described this place best: "Jesse/Kyle/Grady/Flora/Anton/Danielle act like they are in a club. But its kind of a weird club you don't really want to be a part of." -Kyle Hudson is one of the worst people I have ever worked for and has an absolutely reprehensible personality. Very condescending. I frequently felt disrespected. -These people claim to be leading the industry...they cant even lead themselves to a decent process that works.

Pros

The people and culture at VIATechnik have been the biggest highlights of my experience. From day one, everyone has been incredibly supportive and willing to help, and there's truly no such thing as a "stupid question." Whether you're new to the company or have been here for years, people are always willing to share their knowledge and invest time in helping each other succeed. It feels like everyone is working toward the same goal of making the company better every day, and that collaborative mindset carries through every team and interaction. 10/10 would recommend.

Cons

I haven't experienced any significant downsides during my time here. My experience has been overwhelmingly positive, and any challenges I've encountered have been typical of a growing company rather than issues unique to VIATechnik.

Thank you for sharing this. It's wonderful to hear that support and collaboration have stood out so much in your first months here. We want new team members to feel comfortable asking questions and to see that people genuinely want to help each other grow. That sense of working toward the same goal together is something we work hard to protect as we scale. We're glad the growing pains you've noticed have felt manageable rather than discouraging. Thanks for being a VIATechie, and for taking the time to share your experience with us.

Pros

Flexibility while not under contract

Cons

"Sink or swim with no life raft — avoid if you value stability" VIATechnik presents itself as an innovative BIM consultancy with a progressive culture. The reality is a staff augmentation model designed to extract value from skilled professionals and discard them when client engagements end. What to expect: You will be placed on a client project with minimal onboarding, inadequate equipment, and no formal performance feedback process. If the client engagement struggles, VIATechnik will absorb the client's narrative without independently verifying your performance or giving you an opportunity to respond to concerns directly. The clients VIATechnik places you with, including high-profile starchitect firms, operate with the same toxic pace and precision demands as any high-end architecture office. Do not believe the pitch that this is different from traditional architecture. It is not. You will be expected to perform at the level of a seasoned firm employee from day one, with none of the support, mentorship, or ramp-up time that would exist if you were actually hired by that firm. The incentives offered during hiring, including bonus structure, PTO flexibility, and growth opportunities, disappear quickly. The PTO policy is flexible in name only. Approved PTO will not be paid out upon separation, even if it was formally approved by your manager before termination. This is legally questionable and worth consulting an employment attorney about before signing any separation agreement. Review culture here is worth noting. New employees are encouraged to leave positive reviews early in their tenure before they have sufficient experience to evaluate the company honestly. This inflates ratings and obscures the reality for candidates researching the company. The leadership team is responsive until you become inconvenient. Once a client engagement ends, you are processed out efficiently with minimal severance and maximum legal protection for the company. Expect to negotiate for anything beyond the bare minimum. If you are a skilled BIM professional considering VIATechnik, know this: your expertise will be leveraged to serve high-profile clients, but you will be treated as a contractor, not a colleague. When things go wrong and they will, you will bear the consequences alone. I do not recommend this company.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We're sorry to hear your time with us ended this way and that you didn't feel supported through it. Occasionally, roles are set up around one specific project, which isn't typical for how we staff at VIATechnik. When those projects end, it leaves limited options, and we know those transitions can be hard. We take feedback about separation and performance conversations seriously, and we're always looking at how we can communicate more clearly and support people through hard moments. If you'd like to talk through any of this directly, our People and Culture team is glad to listen. We wish you well.
