Pros

They had good policy from optics per se. Like they will give you latest macbook , gym reimbursement and may be couple of foreign trips

Cons

They take pride in saying they are tech companies. They want to compete with AWS but look at the way their CEO talk . When AWS talk they can speak the language of business while these guys can not. The story start and end with server virtualisation. Top management is not talking business outcome and hence complete middle management only talks about technology. This creates a issue in connecting with business at customer side. Also they treat badly people who does not have hardcore technical background. You should join this company till the time you do not get into proper IaaS org like AWS and Azure. They have a very good building in Bangalore and that they use at marketing tool for new joiner. They will show you some people sleeping in one room but honestly you feel that room at mortuary. They have six month probation and they will decide on confirmation in five month and can show you door in five months. And to do this they will collect scripted evidence against you that you are non performer. They will collect five/ six mails against you and prove your non performance. Their core sales team insult and humiliate services team. They treat them as their servants. In name of diversity they have hired non competent female leaders . So while lot of strong male employees work as ordinary staff female becomes boss.

Pros

VMware is a big company but in many ways had a startup vibe. That was great because the resources and infrastructure of a big company were there, but it gave most people I worked with freedom to work on many projects, influence, move around, and contribute in many ways. Plus, many things moved faster than they might at other companies of the same size. Perks were really great including bonuses, events on the campus, opportunities, etc.

Cons

The biggest con is the annual layoff. During most of the years I was there, we were growing like crazy, beating expectations, gaining in stock price, etc. It was always positive and upward. However, every single January, it was known that there would be a round of layoffs, even when all numbers were looking great as they almost always were. Management called it restructuring. But, over the years, some really good people were let go for no apparent reason. Then to add insult to injury, a week or two later, there would be a company quarterly meeting discussing how VMware was doing so well and is still hiring, but they had to make some changes. It always felt dishonest and the sympathy for those let go came across as disingenuous.
