Pros

Store managment will make or break your experience with this job. I've been here for a while now and worked with many different types of management styles and you can see it with the employees, myself included. So each store culture will vary wildly. •Very easy to get promoted if you want, in fact they help push you towards it. •401k dollar to dollar match up to 5% •Health insurance isn't that bad •Pay isn't that bad •Paid weekly •Paid holidays and PTO •Job security if you're friendly, even if you suck at the job •Great place to learn the basics of automotives •Some of the best down to earth people you'll be meet (again depending on store management) •Close knit coworkers depending on the store culture •Can be pretty laid back (see note above) •You'll get plenty of OT if you're full time •Flexible schedule(depends on store manager) •I've never worked a single sunday in my entire time except once to count inventory later in the day •Uppers will buy fill the fridge with water, Gatorade, and all kind of snacks occasionally. It depends on a lot though •Mostly easy job •We got 12 weeks of hazard pay at the beginning of the pandemic which was very helpful

Cons

•The weather can suck at time, especially in the summer(but it's a great place to loose weight! Stores do have a heater for the winter, but A/C system would help a lot) •You do have to deal with some bs not just from customers, but also from the uppers and the store manager depending on their management style •The uniform company they work with sucks, Unifirst will either bring new/update clothes immidetly or never unless you harass them. But that's not Valvoline directly •Some stupid rules, especially in covid world •Schdule is ever changing and is subject to change week of, depending on managment, and the day before •Expected to sell things without being too pushy then get scolded by uppers if you aren't selling enough •Some employees aren't great, but that's any job •High turnover rate because it can be a demanding job, but honestly it's not that hard of the job •If you plan on working 30+ hours apply for full time even if you're part time because you'll be working way more then 30 hours and part timers don't get the paid benefits Recap: it all depends on the store manager

Pros

Okay starting pay. Acceptable starting point if you're looking to get into the automotive industry

Cons

Lack of coverage when your shift ends often leading to being forced to stay an hour over at least. None of the locations have any form of AC or other way to cool down except the office sometimes having water bottles, even in heatwaves. The pit is only ever staffed by one person working both or more bays even though there are supposed to be two+ working one each. Managers will not work on the cars themselves but rather immediately run into the office and close the door to play games on their phones after selling the customer $200 worth of service. Policy requiring you help all customers in line even if you're already closed, leading to staying an hour or more past closing. Customers are not required to turn off their vehicles while waiting in line, leading to severe burns from hot oil or hot metal, especially on diesel trucks. Forget about taking time off for vacations or family, stores are intentionally kept understaffed so you have to work or risk getting fired. You are expected to stay late or come in on your days off to do training bookwork despite being consistently scheduled for 10+ hour shifts. 10+ hour shifts in blistering heat with no one offering water from the office or lobby fountain
