Pros

I thought the work itself was really enjoyable. Most of my coworkers were very fun to work with and I made long term friends here. I learned a decent amount about cars/maintenance/tools. I also built a decent amount of strength from the work which made me happy. It's easy to work your way up pretty quickly as long as you focus on learning how to perform all the services. I think the experience is very location dependent based on my store & others I visited for shifts- mine was clean and well stocked with tools and parts that we needed which made it easier to do the job. They tend to be pretty lenient about being late and calling out. It's hard to get fired as far as I've seen.

Cons

If you have a bad manager or lazy coworkers it impacts you very directly- it is extremely frustrating to have a busy day and feel like you're doing the work of multiple people even when you're fully staffed. The summers are unbearable because of the heat and amount of people who quit. You are supposed to rotate positions when the temperature is high enough, but it ends up being so understaffed that that doesn't happen, which is unsafe and miserable. Pay is average compared to other "minimum wage" jobs, but not enough considering how hard the work is. They work very hard to cap you at 38 hours- you can only get overtime by going to other stores that are understaffed, which may not happen all the time. Obviously you go home tired and stinky, it's uncomfortable getting hot oil spilled on you, and you can get burned from the exhaust pipes if you reach up at the wrong angle- I kind of thought these things were part of the fun somehow, but I don't know how many would agree with me.

Pros

Okay starting pay. Acceptable starting point if you're looking to get into the automotive industry

Cons

Lack of coverage when your shift ends often leading to being forced to stay an hour over at least. None of the locations have any form of AC or other way to cool down except the office sometimes having water bottles, even in heatwaves. The pit is only ever staffed by one person working both or more bays even though there are supposed to be two+ working one each. Managers will not work on the cars themselves but rather immediately run into the office and close the door to play games on their phones after selling the customer $200 worth of service. Policy requiring you help all customers in line even if you're already closed, leading to staying an hour or more past closing. Customers are not required to turn off their vehicles while waiting in line, leading to severe burns from hot oil or hot metal, especially on diesel trucks. Forget about taking time off for vacations or family, stores are intentionally kept understaffed so you have to work or risk getting fired. You are expected to stay late or come in on your days off to do training bookwork despite being consistently scheduled for 10+ hour shifts. 10+ hour shifts in blistering heat with no one offering water from the office or lobby fountain
