Pros

Salary and benefits were great.

Cons

I was let go during a division-wide restructuring. Because I wasn't completely vested in the Vanguard Retirement Savings Program I lost a large amount of money through no fault of my own. Also, even if you were working during the previous partnership year, you had to be employed on Partnership Day so that bonus was gone as well. I had wanted to work at Vanguard for years because of the culture and benefits, but the reality was so disappointing. Managers in my division are deeply incompetent and I was astonished that despite their incompetence they are still employed there. Even if a role was available I would not return to Vanguard.

Pros

Awesome coworkers for young professionals. Paid licensing for a few months.

Cons

Micromanagement is out of control. Incompetent team leaders who are obsessed with power and metrics. Back to back calls, limited support, and nearly impossible effective communication between departments. Zero time to cultivate culture because you are taking calls every second of the day except for 30min/1hr lunch and two 15 minute breaks. You’re locked into your role for over a year (apprenticeship for around 60 days, then a year after promotion to associate) and your team leaders will not approve internal applications unless you are “eligible”.
