Pros

If you have a great team everything will be great. Customers are easy, rarely have any bad customers. 2019 was Vans prime, and I cherish the relationships I have with my previous coworkers. I was paid correctly for the work I did also. The discount is great!

Cons

VF has changed Vans. Massive layoff has/is happening, store closures probably will be happening too. If you don't have a dedicated store manager the team will be sour. Management makes working there worth it! Merit raises are normally under a dollar. Vans hasn't been profitable in two years and they blame the retail employees for it... but it's not their faults. Very hard to move up in the company because people don't want to leave. Even harder if you want to be a DM or move into corporate. Vans says they are a people company but they are not anymore, and hasn't been since 2020. I was laid off with no notice. Lots of turn over now and associates call off all the time.

Pros

Depending on District/Store great culture. Awesome discounts and bonus incentives for full time management. Relatively lenient on being able to use your discretion with difficult customers, "What Would Van Doren Do?" - basically make the customer happy reasonably. Great position to learn retail and people management in - applied itself to any career field later on.

Cons

Job Security (retail and working in malls in today's landscape can be tough depending on location). Corporate can be corporate sometimes, DMs or RMs pushing unreasonable and ridiculous selling behaviors sometimes.
