Agile methodology for development. Work is reviewed to make sure the quality of work is above standards. Well balanced personal life.
Cons
I wouldn't recommend this to freshers or just-out-of-college students as this is bit slow in execution and as a fresher we all are very enthusiasts to do lots of work and a variety of experiments. Once you have had a good 2-3 years experience elsewhere you can surely join Varian and you will feel better about the work you do and the pace is what you wanted after fast 2 years work. May be this is personal opinion but this is what i think.
