Pros

The center provides an intensive, fast-paced, educational place for future BCBAs to learn.

Cons

The company pushes hard to recruit and gain new clients without taking care of their own. On the surface, they have somewhat competitive rates for RBTs, but their center BCBAs get paid way less than the field and tend to work over 40 hours a week. They push billable hours down your throat and have only recently added performance based pay raises. Clinicians get in trouble for not meeting billable requirements, even during times where teams are understaffed (which is often), and have little time to train staff, maintain billables, and treatment plan appropriately. There is immense pressure to get everything done with little support from above. It is clear that their priority is making money and growing rather than fostering a supportive environment. There is also an environment of gossip and cattiness that had recently emerged, which is likely due to employees being overworked and under appreciated with little time for team meetings and team building time. People feel pressured to not take time off, especially without sick pay.

Thank you for expressing your concern. The culture at Verbal Beginnings is built to help our clients make progress towards their individualized goals, and also to highlight the strengths of our amazing clinical staff and show appreciation to them. We’re sorry that did not come across in your experience! Some of the ways we do this include the performance-based bonus program that recognizes above-and-beyond work, promotion from within to build on the professional development of our staff, additional PTO for supervisory roles, and PTO plans that increase as you grow with the company. We also strive with all our power to offer a supportive environment including mentorship from Senior BCBAs, BCBA-Ds, and a 11-person administrative team to assist with operations. Pay rates are competitive within the market, and equitable between Field and Center staff. Based on feedback like this from our staff in weekly meetings, we have moved to a block-schedule that allow teams to have uninterrupted blocks of time together, to be used for meetings and work requiring total concentration. We hope that will help ease the burden of shuffling schedules for meetings, and give all of the teams more room to cohesively collaborate. Verbal Beginnings is a growing company, and we solicit feedback from our staff in regular check-ins to grow better and stronger, and minimize the “growing pains” that can sometimes come about. Clinical integrity and unmatched clinical programming is our top priority to ensure each child is carefully and individually cared for. This priority includes top training for our staff. Each child has a 1:1 Registered Behavior Technician who receives close mentorship and regular in-session supervision from the supervising BCBA. In addition to their Masters’ education and years of experience in the field, our BCBAs receive extensive on-going training and mentorship from Senior BCBA clinicians. To ensure the highest quality of care, we provide staff and families a top-tier support system, capped by 2 PhD BCBA-D/BCBA’s and co-CEOs who all maintain their credentials.

Pros

Flexible hour, good if you are a student

Cons

Dont have health coverage but it's not really a con because it's a part-time position and they already stated this when you starting the job.

Pros

Full time center hours was the only pro

Cons

Pretty much everything. VB used to be a great company at the forefront of ABA services but they are stuck in 2017 with no interest in getting better. They are the laughing stock of the field now. The company has gotten so corporate and heartless. They only care about money, not about the kids. They reinforce absolutely terrible behavior from staff in order to not have difficult conversations and then deflect blame. They expect the world from employees who are stretched so thin and are begging for help. And if you dare speak up or call these things out, you get labeled as a problem and get forced out one way or another.
