Pros
The people have by and large been the single best reason to work for Valassis Digital. It's a team environment, we have fun, it's supportive, and it's full of genuinely great folks. There's a fair amount of autonomy in terms of projects you can take on, how you conduct business with sellers (your strategic plans, etc.), and you learn an incredible amount because, in some aspects, digital is like the wild west. There has been a lot of improvement in career pathing and visibility between teams - and an openness to join them if the opportunity arises. Management has your back most days when dealing with issues.
Cons
Management recently took away merit increases a few months before they were due (early fall). With bonuses not guaranteed (and penalized when we don't hit our growth targets), this is one of the only opportunities for employees to increase their pay. Additionally, once you're an employee, regardless of promotion or position change across teams, there is a supposed < 10% max increase in salary. There is no room for negotiations of any sort. When you succeed in your role, you are given great verbal accolades, you get more work (or higher level work/visibility), but be careful as this does not translate to financial reward. There are politics at play, as with any company, and they are slow to promote depending on your team. Separately - there have been what seems to be large amounts of financial-based layoffs (middle management, "position eliminations", "re-orgs", etc.) so it is hard to feel job security. There has been a lot of quiet discussion about seeing those who are pregnant or new moms stuck in the crossfire. We've seen ~10-12 pregnant or new moms be let go over the past year in questionable circumstances. Most of these women were widely respected or revered in their positions, and were complete surprises to hear they were let go. Morale seems to have dipped re: job security and how the company puts women and equality first in the workplace through situations such as these. Be cautious if you're looking to stay for the benefits.
