Pros

- Smart, driven people. With best work ethic you can see in the industry (across tech/bio/pharma). - Good mission. People truly believe in the mission - Google benefits/perks. Good compensation.

Cons

- Bad work life balance. This is understandable given the stage company is in, pre-IPO, and nature of work in biotech industry. - CEO + senior management don't know what it takes to build a valuable product. This is the biggest gap. Verily needs a sustainable business model that's not partnership driven in order to be self-sufficient, and grow outside of Alphabet. Senior leadership lacks experience here. True innovation doesn't only come from clinical innovations. Verily is a technology company. - Senior management over promises to partners, and company then under delivers (due to reasons above). - Terrible leadership. Q&As, All Hands, Surveys are just placeholders. Leadership doesn't "actually" take employee feedback seriously. - CEO lacks empathy. That's not necessarily a requirement for a CEO, but I would expect a CEO to be at least business-savvy if lacking empathy.

Pros

Good compensation and nice coworkers

Cons

It’s like leadership is trying to be as stereotypically corporate-nasty and sketchy as possible. (For fun, maybe? Hope you’re having fun in your dark gray blazers.) The company feels very unstable from the inside and morale has completely tanked. There’s also a highly uncomfortable obsession and dependence on office presence. They begrudgingly give two remote days, for now, but the work you do isn’t as important as “looking busy” and performance optics in the office. I just can’t recommend Verily as a place of work, unless you’re desperate or have an unexpectedly brilliant long-term plan to make it work for your career?
