Pros

The benefits are good. There are a number of facets to the VeriSign business which should mean there is a lot of opportunity for divergent involvements and contact with a lot of different technologies. There were some instances of inter-organizational movement. It is more difficult to achieve in a remote office. The HR staff is generally attentive and responsive. The IT infrastructure is generally a good environment in which to work. Being a security company, it is sometimes overly restrictive to the Dev staff.

Cons

Indian management in the Santa Cruz office is extremely racist in their practices. If you are Indian, look forward to preferential treatment. If not, look elsewhere. The Santa Cruz office has Indian population greater than 50%. To put it mildly, the local management is not very "enlightened". The business represented in the Santa Cruz office is in decline. There have been a couple rounds of layoffs where we have lost really talented staff. The attrition over the last couple years has seen a steady exodus of the most senior and talented technical staff. All are signs of a sinking ship. In fact, VeriSign is attempting to "divest" this office. Yup, it's up for sale. Too bad. This office was once a leader of multimedia applications for cell phones.
