Pros

Where else can you work from home full time with an awesome salary & great benefits? 20+ years here Having started in NY Telephone and working through the NYNEX, Bell Atlantic & Verizon days as well as striking out on my own for a while, I've found that Verizon is the place I want to be. I've had good & bad managers over the years (some very bad), but my current group is truly fantastic to work with/for. I feel like a valued member of the team... but even with that I still do not feel safe from the CONS listed below......

Cons

The ever present threat of layoffs has made looking over your shoulder and worrying about job security has made it very difficult to have peace of mind. It's clear that the folks laid off are not always "the bad ones"... many times it simply comes down to dollars and cents. In 2015 so far, I'm aware of 8-10 current & former coworkers laid off from different departments.... one with 20+ years of service another with 30+

Pros

Compensation is competitive but you will work very hard for it. Culture is excellent and exhibited and practiced from the top down. Benefits are excellent and cost reasonable. 401k match and profit sharing. Lots of training and professional development opportunities. Can advance if you're willing to relocate.

Cons

Company is trying to transform into what it wants to be beyond a wireless carrier (cloud?, security?, telematics?, wholesaler?, etc) and is struggling with a vision, resources, and org structure to make it a reality. Several re-organizations over last few years so job security has frequently been a question. Often delayed response to competitors caused by management's concern that acting would result in not meeting Wall Street expectations. Not the "happiest" place to work because no result is ever good enough and successes aren't celebrated because the focus is always on the next weekly/monthly/quarterly goal.
