Pros

Major player in the industry, varied voice and data product sets make for an interesting job, wireless side is very exciting to customers. Major emphasis to shift product focus towards higher profit managed services, professional services, unified communications, IT solutions, and security oriented offerings and away from transport and traditional voice services.

Cons

Continued centralization of provisioning is causing major concern with customers, as the human element is being taken away from the account teams. Employees in centers are mostly new, with little or no telecom experience. This is causing implementation mistakes and longer lead times. Efforts to train and season the new recruits is being hampered by an extremely high turn-over rate. Company continues to add layers upon layers of processes and procedures, which makes it frustrating to respond to customer requests in a timely manner. Competitors move much more quickly, and customers end up waiting just for a price quote. Verizon touts that it is a single company, but it is still very much three separate entities (Verizon ILEC, Verizon Business, and Verizon Wireless). Each has its own management structure, and barriers are in place to prevent sharing of information. Engaging a Verizon Wireless rep is no different than engaging a resource from a partner vendor. As with many of the other comments posted here, the constant RIF's are annoying because they happen every several weeks. Multiple times key matrix team members were lost during the middle of a project. It's difficult to find a current employee is not worried about being shown the door.

Pros

Compensation is competitive but you will work very hard for it. Culture is excellent and exhibited and practiced from the top down. Benefits are excellent and cost reasonable. 401k match and profit sharing. Lots of training and professional development opportunities. Can advance if you're willing to relocate.

Cons

Company is trying to transform into what it wants to be beyond a wireless carrier (cloud?, security?, telematics?, wholesaler?, etc) and is struggling with a vision, resources, and org structure to make it a reality. Several re-organizations over last few years so job security has frequently been a question. Often delayed response to competitors caused by management's concern that acting would result in not meeting Wall Street expectations. Not the "happiest" place to work because no result is ever good enough and successes aren't celebrated because the focus is always on the next weekly/monthly/quarterly goal.
