Pros

I worked with some really great people. There were some good avenues for advancement. This company allows you to be very mobile; you can move anywhere in the country fairly easily. The compensation at the sales level is very attractive for the amount of effort needed.

Cons

The opportunities to move up are filled with hurdles. From a sales position you have to move up to an assistant manager and then store manager to even be considered for positions outside of retail. There is no incentive to move up to management positions in retail. The pay is equal or drastically less if you were actually good at sales and in most cases you have to relocate or commute to a store much farther away in order to take a management position. Yearly raises were only enough to cover inflation and commission was whittled away every year that I was there. When I started with Verizon I could stand behind the knowledge that the products and services were genuinely improving peoples lives in some way. I left feeling like I was forced to take advantage of people just to get a paycheck less than what I used to make honestly.

Pros

Compensation is competitive but you will work very hard for it. Culture is excellent and exhibited and practiced from the top down. Benefits are excellent and cost reasonable. 401k match and profit sharing. Lots of training and professional development opportunities. Can advance if you're willing to relocate.

Cons

Company is trying to transform into what it wants to be beyond a wireless carrier (cloud?, security?, telematics?, wholesaler?, etc) and is struggling with a vision, resources, and org structure to make it a reality. Several re-organizations over last few years so job security has frequently been a question. Often delayed response to competitors caused by management's concern that acting would result in not meeting Wall Street expectations. Not the "happiest" place to work because no result is ever good enough and successes aren't celebrated because the focus is always on the next weekly/monthly/quarterly goal.
