Pros

You get the stability of one of the most recognized brands in the US. It is a great place with the right manager. Really good benefits and tuition reimbursement is really nice if _you_ make the time to use it- and you should! It won't be easy but it can definitely be done. There is lots of room for improvement! Learn how to get things done. Don't get frustrated if you have to make five phone calls to get your answer. When you get to that fifth person they will know everything about your question and might even be an industry expert! Keep the faith.

Cons

Almost impossible to move around or up in the company. Verizon likes to hire from outside and is not really interested in your professional growth. The only way up is to leave for another company unfortunately. You can use the tuition to learn a new technology and then go use it at another company but it is rare to be able to grow. Managers are insecure to tell their managers that their requests are unreasonable or repetitive and the stuff just rolls downhill. You'll fill out more spreadsheets which are never opened than you thought possible. Having reports generated from the systems you use is impossible and management would prefer not to change what they have been doing for years and years. It has to change and it will but it is so frustrating at a contributor role if you know how much better it can be.

Pros

Compensation is competitive but you will work very hard for it. Culture is excellent and exhibited and practiced from the top down. Benefits are excellent and cost reasonable. 401k match and profit sharing. Lots of training and professional development opportunities. Can advance if you're willing to relocate.

Cons

Company is trying to transform into what it wants to be beyond a wireless carrier (cloud?, security?, telematics?, wholesaler?, etc) and is struggling with a vision, resources, and org structure to make it a reality. Several re-organizations over last few years so job security has frequently been a question. Often delayed response to competitors caused by management's concern that acting would result in not meeting Wall Street expectations. Not the "happiest" place to work because no result is ever good enough and successes aren't celebrated because the focus is always on the next weekly/monthly/quarterly goal.
