Poorly managed company wasting the time of talented employees - Associate Principal Via Transportation Employee Review

Pros

Many of the people who work at Via are genuinely kind, talented, and easy to work with, especially at the more junior levels. The baseline product is not horrible. Some of the issues with the company may resolve if the business outlook improves.

Cons

Despite being a mature startup, Via is still managed like a much smaller company, with a very unprofessional HR department, no formal advancement process and a micromanaging and temperamental CEO. While lower-level employees are often easy to work with and very open, the culture at the top is very gossipy and political. The company is not transparent with employees about the firm's business outlook or company policy changes. Company focus changes regularly and there is a general feeling of disorganization and lack of direction around the company's various business lines.

Pros

Incredibly supportive management. Extremely healthy work environment. Company culture is top notch. Benefits are well above market average. Using PTO is encouraged, and when on PTO general duties are handled by supportive coworkers.

Cons

Extremely fast-paced environment. Real-time issues can arise, and can be stressful to resolve. Remote work can feel isolating, however, managers and coworkers are extremely easy to reach.

Pros

Most people you work with are nice, PTO is respected.

Cons

No strategy to speak of, the product is not good other than the acquisitions. Customers are treated poorly. C-suite is extremely tone deaf. Decisions come randomly from above with no bearing on what people are doing. There is no review cycle on purpose, the only people who get raises have other offers so many people are leaving. Which is a good idea because the stock price is down so all RSUs are underwater. Most teams are horribly overworked and underpaid and the one day a week lunch is getting worse.
