Great company culture, non-competitive pay - Member Of Technical Staff Viasat Employee Review

Pros

Culture is fantastic, lots of extra-curricular stuff to do if you're a salaried employee. Benefits are great but at a big cost to the compensation. Very innovative and moving forward in the industry, starting to get name-brand recognition. If you live in North County (San Diego), it is a great tech company to start out at.

Cons

Simply put, the pay. I have been offered several jobs that match my work load and responsibilities by competitors, and they ALL beat my current salary. ViaSat Compensation team says they analyze their pay versus other companies and positions in similar industries, but it seems as if they don't. They pay new-hires in the same positions much more money than people that have been there for years, and it has nothing to do with experience or education. They don't seem to value loyalty when it comes to compensation. If you are a new-grad looking for a company to work for, this is it. If you have been working there for 5+ years and find the raises (despite fantastic peer and manager reviews) to be mediocre, take another offer. It's unfortunate, as they are losing people to other companies strictly for pay reasons, and that is a WEALTH of knowledge and experience that is leaving the company.

Pros

There is freedom to approach each project as you see fit. Strong support from senior leadership.

Cons

When several programs peak at the same time the hours start to creep up pretty quickly.
