Pros
My position was not an intellectually demanding position. It was more focused on provided daily supportive services such as transportation, medication support and conversations designed to help clients focus on their activities of daily living and goals of importance to them. Therefore, if you need a job that doesn't demand a lot of your mind while simultaneously going to school this job *could* be good for you. This position will likely be in demand these days due to the strain on the public healthcare system during COVID-19
Cons
Poor quality of co-workers - One of my co-workers routinely showed up an hour late to work. This made it difficult to manage work demand when on-site by myself. Another would bring his vaping equipment to work and tinker with it while on the clock. Or he would leave to do his personal laundry. Opaque and unaccountable management - During my time in my role I requested a reasonable accommodation due to a past history of a disability. Management did not engage in a sufficiently interactive dialogue regarding my request. Instead, my request was summarily denied. This is quite distressing considering this employer works in an industry designed to help people. Disrespect - After filing a complaint with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination I learned about false allegations made against me by a co-worker. In short, do not work for this employer if you value your own health and dignity.
