The problems come from the top - Clinical Manager Vir Biotechnology Employee Review

Pros

Pay is still staying in the realm of competitive. Many colleagues are great to work with aside from only being allowed to speak when spoken to by top leadership.

Cons

There is a lot to unpack here that boils down to the office of the CEO. Any reviews with high marks in the last 12 months were directives from the top to try and combat the low ratings of real employee feedback. The leadership burn rate through cash is being blown on outward appearances while proper fiscal spending on functional needs is withheld and punishable. Any reviews in the last month that list flexibility as one of the only remaining pros was just taken away for 2025. In fact, it went into something so immediately rigid that the guess is they are trying to make people quit before bonus payouts. CEO throws inappropriate tantrums over mild inconveniences. The amount of attempted investor meetings appears desperate both internally and externally. End of 2024 was a giant bread crumbing session to pretend to listen to senior leaders that blew through needed finances. The "bolstered' pipeline is barely hanging on. Any management that care about their teams are stripped of their power.

Pros

Collaborative teammates and a pleasant work environment made this a wonderful place to work. Competitive benefits and salary, with exciting products in the pipeline.

Cons

The company has turned away from putting resources into infectious disease and towards oncology. Not a negative per se, but something to be aware of.

Pros

Pockets of highly competent scientists, professionals and all-around lovely people. Interesting science, promising platforms and pipeline.

Cons

Toxic, chaotic workplace culture due to understaffing and inexperienced management, leading to a wave of resignations from highly critical roles, despite two promising assets in the clinic and more in the pipeline. Staff speaks out but senior leadership does not care.
