      Great way for students to gain legit experience for your resume. If you have a good PI, it can become a great mentorship opportunity. The work will vary depending on the lab, though.

      Cons

      Funded through work study, so if you run out of funds you are required to stop working.

      Pros

      They care about the employees. There are multiple efforts to support everyone, it is a welcoming environment, HR is very supportive.

      Cons

      VCU is incredibly bureaucratic and poorly ran. Things move slow, very slow. More slow than normal universities should. It isn't just "oh this is academia, things move slow." It's legitimate poor management across multiple levels of leadership.
