Pros
The university has great benefits healthcare and vacation benefits. You start out with great vacation time and you accrue hours of leave each pay period.
Cons
VCU is a very unique institution. They brand themselves as being “Diverse” and “Inclusive”, but when you become an employee the ideals of the university do not align with some departments. There isn’t any upward mobility or professional growth available for employees. When working for the university, I felt as if I was placed in a box with task that prohibited my professional growth. Being under the supervision of a “micromanager” and working with disgruntled coworkers, coming to work became frustrating and uncomfortable. The capacity of my position did not allow me to network and I felt “trapped” in my position. Departments did not function as a team. The level of gossip and cattiness was unbelievable, especially coming from seasoned professionals.
