Virginia Commonwealth University

Is this your company?

VCU is a good place to work, but lots of red tape! I retired in 2014, after 11 years . - Clinical Research Coordinator Virginia Commonwealth University Employee Review

Pros

It can work like living in a big city--you develop your own "neighborhood" of departments you need to work with, and the rest just doesn't affect you.

Cons

It's like dealing with the government....things must be done in a certain way, usually including many forms, and no exceptions. If you're at MCV campus, parking is the other BIG issue.

Pros

They care about the employees. There are multiple efforts to support everyone, it is a welcoming environment, HR is very supportive.

Cons

VCU is incredibly bureaucratic and poorly ran. Things move slow, very slow. More slow than normal universities should. It isn't just "oh this is academia, things move slow." It's legitimate poor management across multiple levels of leadership.
