Pros
Tremendous people are attracted to working at VCU. Most students are wonderful and sincerely appreciative of the faculty and professional staff.
Cons
Senior leadership is over compensated and not subject to the same standards and monitoring of the professionals delivering services to the students. Salary and benefits where advance degrees and licensure is required are way below national average and significantly below comparable roles at other Virginia universities. Advising professionals are rewarded for 'tracking' to demonstrate student engagement where the superficial interaction with many students is the 'value' to the university. VCU has too many senior roles that have no direct student interaction and too many professional staff and faculty roles with direct student interaction are spread too thin.
